About Me

 

 

Hi! My name is Jen and here are some things about me: I love reading, going to movies, playing volleyball, all things health and nutrition...and of course, photography!  I am a HUGE Real Salt Lake fan and we had season tickets for 8 years!  My husband, Ryan, and I have been married 20+ years and have 3 amazing kids! And in case you are wondering, the name "Caylia" comes from a combination of all 3 of my kids names! Credit due to my husband Ryan for coming up with the name!

 

I started loving photography, like a lot of parents, when we had our first baby! You just can't ever have enough pictures of those adorable little babies! A friend of mine was a photographer for NILMDTS at the time and was the first person who got me interested in becoming a better photographer. Her stories inspired me every single day and it was always at the back of my mind to become good enough to be able to be a photographer for NILMDTS too. 

 

I purchased my first DSLR camera after my second baby was born and started to realize how much I really enjoyed taking pictures, and that I really wanted to have good quality pictures of my kids. So I started classes at the community college and local photo stores that offered courses to learn the basics of photography.

 

In the spring of 2014, I heard about a class taught by the owner of a local photography studio. I was impressed with his knowledge and passion for photography. He told me about the Academy he was starting and I was inspired by his vision and signed up a few days later, getting the last spot in the first graduating class of Fotofly Academy! I graduated in September 2014!  Although very intensive, I loved my training and experiences and it wasn't until after I started the course that I learned what encompassed a truly great photo. I learned more in the first week at the academy than I had over the last 2 years of classes. And I have continued to learn from other amazing photographers and online classes and retreats since.
